Born in St Pancras, London, Whybrow moved to St Ives in 1980 with his wife, the art historian and novelist, Marion Davis Whybrow. Terry was a painter always focused on 'the stillness' of his images, that which he called 'harmony and silence'. 'Having travelled through figuration, abstraction and back, the same objectives remain. Harmony and Silence.'

When living in London his 'paintings were hard edged abstractions of urban life, after moving to Cornwall all previous ideas and influences were overshadowed by the strength and textures of Cornwall.

We exhibited Terry's work from 2001 -2010, during this time he once said that he was "only interested in the aesthetics of painting (no story to tell)". His work has often been referred to as 'still lifes', a term that seemed to irritate him as he was content to refer to them just as paintings. As his paintings often feature art pottery, we once commented that he must have a fine collection. His response was "no, I don't but I have a good imagination".

His paintings are held in private collections around the globe, and in Cornwall.
